Celebrate Puanga with Haukai

Like Matariki, Puanga is a time to reflect on the past and plan for and celebrate the year ahead. It’s an opportunity for the community to honour their maunga, remember loved ones and look forward to the new year.

Puanga means ‘abundance of food’, and heralds the beginning of Matariki, calling in the new year. Puanga is the brightest star that can be seen above the three stars of Tautoru (Orion’s Belt).

To mark the occasion, our chefs have created a special menu inspired by local ingredients, seasonal produce and the cultural flavours of Aotearoa. Designed to showcase the stories, traditions and ingredients that make our region unique, this dining experience offers guests a meaningful taste of the season and the rich heritage that surrounds Puanga.
